I’m a civil engineer and a construction planner from Hong Kong. Coming to the UK and then to Miami via the Bridges programme, I experienced how massive projects in other regions operate. I also got chances to travel to different countries with my camera. This is awesome!

After living in London for a year surrounded by historical buildings, I landed overnight in the modernous city of Miami. What a shock! On my way to the downtown area, I saw lots of skyscrapers that reminded me of my home town, Hong Kong. As the whole area is close to sea front, I saw a lot of luxury boats, which looked vibrant and bustling. I wish I know how to swim!

I joined CBNA’s Miami office to work on tenders in the North America region. This is the first time I work as a tender planner, which is a bit different from what I usually do on projects. The main challenge is to build the project schedule from scratch, based on our understanding of the tender document, and I don’t have any experience in North American practice. But there are a lot of ‘big brains’ around the office! We look at the matter together and work out a sensible workflow, so I’ve always felt supported.

As we are pursuing a project in Toronto, we had the opportunity to go there to meet our JV partners before a big presentation to the client. It’s the first and only time I’ve had the opportunity to see our partners in person, which is enlightening. We also took advantage of the weekend to visit Niagara Falls. I have the feeling that we work better together afterwards.

The Miami office isn’t so big, which brings people closer together. There is a tradition to take turns in serving breakfast on Friday. And from time to time, there are corporate activities. For instance, I took part in the Company run in April : this kind of activity really helps me to get to know my colleagues!

As Florida is completely flat, it’s difficult to hike in the area I live, and I’m struggling to find a badminton court here, so I have to look for alternative hobbies. After the Corporate run in April, a couple of us wanted to keep the running spirit and we decided to join the local running club together. Now running has become my Tuesday routine sport. Enjoying the Miami’s waterfront, the view from the evening run is magnificent!

Being a Bridges, I feel I have to travel! I visited Florida’s two famous theme parks – Universal Studio and Disneyland. My family also visited me in June, we explored the southest area in the US – Key West. We also went to New York ! The scale of NYC is on another level and there are so many museums to explore!

And to fulfil my hiking and photography cravings, I went to the Utah National Parks at the end of September. The landscapes were breathtaking!
