First trained in law, I discovered the operational side of construction 4 years ago: it became my passion. I worked hard to become a site engineer and am so grateful to be where I am now. I love photography, travelling and discovering new cultures.
At work, I had the opportunity to discover a whole new culture. It took me days to adapt and understand it. I chose to work on site, as a project engineer. The site conditions were very tough but I liked it a lot.
We had to built 8 retaining walls and do the post-tensioning of 6 bridges. It was very hard to manage because the site works in the Middle East are very different from the experiences I had in the UK or in France. The temperatures reached 50 degrees in summer, I could feel the heat even with the AC on.
And on top of that, I am a girl on site in the Middle East, which is something that never happens here. On my first days, everyone was staring at me, it was a bit disturbing but after some time they got used to seeing me, and I got used to seeing those looks as well. It was a very good experience because I learned a lot, I was in charge of everything on site, which I never did before, and I learned to deal and adapt to people that are totally different from me and the people I know. Now that it’s over, I can say that I am very grateful that I could experience this.
In my free time, I like to drive around the UAE. Before I come here, I thought everything was “superficial” in this country, but after exploring a little bit I discovered gems like Hatta, which is an emirate in the mountains, with an amazing bright blue lake.
I love to spend time at the beach and wait for the sun to set. Sunsets in the UAE are one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. I also like to try new restaurants, the food here is just amazing, there is literally no bad restaurant. We can find cuisines from all around the world.
But my favourite thing to do in the UAE is camping in the desert. It is so quiet and relaxing, far from noisy Downtown Dubai. I like to go there with my group of friends, light a fire, grill marshmallows and play games. I will miss those nights a lot.
I loved living here, everything is so fast, the service is amazing, you can get whatever you want whithin a few minutes.
The UAE is amazing, you can have the choice between city life with the tall and shiny buildings, old Dubai which is more authentic, and nature with the mountains, desert and the empty beaches with white sand and clear blue water.
