I am a Filipino Civil Engineer with expertise in architectural works and nearly four years of experience in superstructure projects at VSL Civil Works Philippine Branch. Through the Bridges Programme, I am embracing new challenges and bridging diverse perspectives. I enjoy cooking, traveling, photography, and connecting with different cultures.
I’m absolutely delighted to have had the opportunity to discover a whole new culture here in the UK. As this is my first international working experience, it took me about two weeks to adapt and grasp their work processes and terminologies. Although sometimes confusing, it was an interesting learning curve.
As a Senior Section Engineer assigned to Heat Sink Unit 1, specifically at the East Side (Train C) of HSU1, I’ve been working both in the office and on-site during the pre-pour phase. With a team of four engineers under my supervision, and guidance from a senior engineer and line manager, I successfully transitioned to the post-pour team after two months in pre-pour.
My line manager recognized my potential and deemed me a good fit for the team, valuing the experience I brought from the Philippines. Now, working closely with the Section Manager and Project Manager of Post-Pour for about three weeks, I’m facing new challenges adapting to their workflow, understanding their dashboards, and reporting requirements.
I’m grateful for the exposure and opportunities, including attending high-level meetings with the client. What I appreciate most about the UK work culture is the emphasis on mental health, daily greetings, and interest in personal well-being. I also enjoy how colleagues share their cultures, beliefs, and stories, creating a welcoming environment.
I’m overflowing with gratitude for the opportunity to work at Hinkley Point C, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Every day brings joys, challenges, and learning experiences.
