Originally from North of Vietnam, I’ve always dreamt of working in an international environment and learning from amazing professionals. Thanks to this programme, I am part of a big project with great colleagues from more than 50 countries.
I had heard a lot about Hong Kong’s reputation for being a fast-paced city, but nothing could have prepared me for the reality. Upon arriving at the project office on Monday morning, I was immediately thrown into the deep end. Within minutes of settling in, I was whisked away to a site meeting, where all stakeholders were gathered to discuss project progress. It was a clear indication of the city’s rapid-fire business culture.
This year, I have been assigned two significant tasks that have allowed me to build upon my previous experiences. The first task involves continuing my role as a Temporary Works Coordinator, where I am responsible for checking as-built temporary works on-site. This role allows me to apply the knowledge I gained as a Temporary Works Designer during my first-year mission at HPC.
My second assignment entails monitoring statutory requirements outlined in approved letters and drawings. This task has been particularly interesting as it gives me exposure to various work packages and provides a comprehensive overview of work procedures in Hong Kong.
Throughout this journey, I have been constantly learning and expanding my knowledge in areas such as Architectural Building Work Finishes and Railway Safety. My colleagues have been invaluable sources of knowledge and support, sharing their experiences and providing guidance on improving work processes. Their warmth, humor and expertise have made this experience even more enjoyable.
Hong Kong’s skyline is breathtaking, but it is even more stunning at 8 pm every night thanks to the Symphony of Lights. If you visit Hong Kong, I highly recommend catching this show. The best viewing spot is the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront outside the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Just remember to get there early, as it is a popular tourist attraction!
