England to Hong Kong

Growing up in rural Australia, it was my dream to become an electrical engineer and work around the world. I love learning about how things are built and trying to come up with new ways to do it better. I love fishing and homebrewing.

During my first few weeks in Hong Kong, I was amazed by the incredible diversity of experiences the city offers. While I was familiar with the iconic skyline, bustling streets and vibrant harbor from movies, I was completely taken aback by the stunning natural beauty that lies just outside the city center. From pristine beaches and majestic mountains to charming islands and quaint villages, Hong Kong truly has it all.

This year, my primary responsibilities have centered around overseeing the successful deployment of two innovative technologies for our diaphragm construction project at Tung Chung West: an electrical diaphragm wall cutter and the EcoCut hard rock cutter system.

Working on-site has presented unique challenges, as the pace, organization, and environment are quite different from what I am accustomed to. The constant heat, humidity and muddy conditions can be demanding.

Despite the challenges, it has been incredibly satisfying to witness the progress of our projects and to contribute to initiatives that will likely benefit our company for years to come.

During the cooler months, I traded in the city’s hustle and bustle for the serenity of Hong Kong’s hiking trails. There are some amazing parks and islands to explore. Now that the weather has warmed up, I have been soaking up the sun on the beach with a cold drink in hand.

My mum and brother visited this year, and I had a blast showing them around. We explored both the city’s vibrant neighborhoods and its more tranquil spots.

Oh, and the food is incredible. I think I eat my body weight in dumplings and noodles each week.
