I’m a Civil Engineer from the Philippines. Through the Bridges Programme, I aimed for career growth via continuous learning. I loved my first year in the UK as it exposed me to diverse teams and travel opportunities. The second year in the USA was also amazing! Cooking, table tennis, and yoga are my passions.
Dropping into D.C., we cruised past the iconic Monument and Capitol, my jaw nearly hitting the floor at how bright the city was after dark. The vibe was electric, with a melting pot of people and a cultural scene that was popping. From grand museums to historic theaters, the area around the White House was a whirlwind of history and government, all wrapped up in a vibrant urban package.
I recently joined the Potomac River Tunnel project as a QA Engineer, diving headfirst into a project that had already been underway for a few months. The transition from QC to QA has been a bit of a learning curve, but it has been an exciting challenge. Moving from a reactive role to a proactive one has required a significant shift in mindset, and understanding the intricacies of the Quality Management System was needed.
Despite the challenges, I am excited about the opportunities for growth and development that this new role presents. I am grateful for the support of my manager, who has a wealth of experience and is always willing to share his knowledge. The team on the Potomac River Tunnel project is incredibly diverse, and the positive communication and collaboration among us is a real asset.
Our office is conveniently located just a short distance from the White House, which makes for a unique and inspiring work environment. I am also looking forward to the day when our site office is operational, as it will be located right next to the Lincoln Memorial with a stunning view of the monument.
Beyond work, my colleagues and I have been enjoying exploring the area together. We have had a blast watching the eclipse from our building’s penthouse, taking road trips to Pennsylvania, visiting Niagara Falls and engaging in outdoor activities like hiking, camping and wall climbing. And of course, we always make time for some Friday night fun!
When I first arrived in Washington, D.C., I explored the city’s iconic landmarks like the Capitol, the Monument and the White House. In March, I witnessed the stunning cherry blossoms in bloom around the Tidal Basin with a view of the Monument. We also took a trip to New York with my best friend and partner to explore the Big Apple.
Last summer, my partner and I ventured to Ocean City, Philadelphia, Annapolis and some nearby beaches.
Washington, D.C. is known for being bike-friendly, so I joined my colleagues for some cycling adventures around the area. We also celebrated the 4th of July together with a fireworks display at the Monument. During the summer, we went kayaking and even tried wall climbing, which I really enjoyed.

I’m originally from Canada and Egypt and I’ve got the chance to work on North East link in Melbourne. As you can guess, I like travelling and discovering new cultures, but always carrying music with me!
