A Tender Submission Engineer, I was previously working in Australia. As part of my mission here, I’ve travelled in the UK to inspect bridges and discuss with clients. I love playing tennis, travelling, diving, cycling and practising yoga.
During my initial days at the Barcelona office, I was captivated by the global scope of the projects being managed by the team. From South America to Canada, Morocco and Dubai, the office serves as a hub for international ventures. This dynamic environment provides a unique opportunity to witness the development of diverse regions firsthand simply by interacting with colleagues working on these exciting projects.
Barcelona itself is a warm and inviting city. Even during the winter months, the city center is bustling with life, and the sun frequently shines. It is a pleasant place to live and work.
I began the year as a Business Development Engineer, focusing on projects in the IALA region, primarily overseeing tenders for projects located in South America. After successfully securing a major contract in Cuba for the construction of a viaduct, I transitioned to the role of Project Manager for this ambitious undertaking.
As Project Manager, my responsibilities encompass all aspects of the project, from contractual and client interactions to design and project methodologies. The wide-ranging scope of this role presented initial challenges, particularly in areas such as large-scale finance and negotiating with Cuban clients. However, I am pleased to report that the project is progressing smoothly and is currently on track.
Language was initially a barrier, but I quickly adapted and learned to communicate effectively. My Spanish language skills have improved significantly due to the necessity of learning quickly to integrate with the team. While Catalan is the next language on my list, I am taking a short break before diving into that new challenge.
Padel is the sport of choice among my friends and colleagues here in Barcelona and it has been really nice for me to try it. It is a fun and accessible game, and there are courts everywhere, making it easy to squeeze in a match during lunch breaks or on weekends.
With Barcelona’s pleasant weather, it is no surprise that many friends have come to visit. Exploring the city by bike has been a fantastic way to see everything from the bustling seaside to the scenic mountains. It’s a great way to get some exercise and see the city from a unique perspective.
I finally took the plunge and started freediving lessons along the coast of Barcelona and Costa Brava. It has been an incredible experience to explore the underwater world on my own breath. There is something truly magical about gliding through the water and discovering hidden treasures beneath the surface.
One of the highlights of my year was experiencing the Olympics in Paris. It was an incredible opportunity to see such a prestigious international event in my own city. The atmosphere was electric and the performances were truly awe-inspiring.
